Frederic Walter Cox
September 27th, 1944 - August 11th, 2024
Frederic (Fred) Cox, a cherished husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend passed away on August 11, 2024. Fred was born in Fargo, North Dakota. He was the eldest son of Fred and Lorraine Cox and brother to Barry, Terry, and Barbara.
Fred was a man of many interests. He loved to read. He once shared a memory of being awestruck as a first grader upon entering the school library for the first time and seeing the many books on the shelves. This led him to be a seeker of knowledge.
Fred was passionate about music. He received his first guitar at age 14. He joined his first band at age 15. He learned to play lead, rhythm, and bass guitar. At age 17, Fred joined the band The Torrells. Fred can be heard playing bass guitar in the song ?Lost Love recorded in Minneapolis in 1962 by The Torrells. While it didn't make it to number one, the song received its fair share of play time on local radio stations. It can still be heard today on YouTube. Fred continued to play guitar with his friends throughout his lifetime.
Fred met Nancy when they were both 16 years old and were married when they were 18. They lived in Jamestown, North Dakota with their 2 small children, Paula and Jeff, until they were inspired to move to Colorado in 1969. Fred and Nancy's family grew with the addition of two more children, Kris and Eric, and they raised their family in the home they purchased in what was then the small town of Loveland.
Anywhere there was a path, Fred followed it just to see where it would go. With a camera in hand and a backpack full of snacks, Fred took his family out on many adventures. There were Sunday drives, hikes around Carter Lake, rock hunts on old country roads, and camp outs at the Devil's Tower in Wyoming. Fred inspired his family to find beauty in all things, whether it be in the skies or on the ground.
Fred worked in various office supply stores in sales and service. From office machinery to home gadgets to computers, Fred had the ability to fix almost anything. Fred worked at Hewlett-Packard in technical support for 7 years before retiring.
Upon retiring, Fred developed a passion for painting. He was accepted into the 2024 spring art show at the Cheyenne Frontier Days Old West Museum. Having a library of photographs from his great appreciation of nature, there was never a shortage of beautiful scenery for Fred to capture on canvas. Fred liked flowers and tended to a flower garden every spring. He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He continued exploring the roads less traveled, taking pictures along the way.
Fred's life was filled with a variety of passions that led him to become a musician, photographer, backroads traveler, artist, and computer whiz. He was brilliantly funny and left a lasting impression on all who met him. Fred was a source of wisdom and strength, and he created a tightly bonded family full of love, laughter, and music. Go in peace, Fred. We will love you always.
Fred was preceded in death by his son, Jeff Cox.
Fred is survived by his wife of 61 years, Nancy; his children Paula Williford (Ronnie), Kris Krieger (Chuck), and Eric Cox; his grandchildren Braden Cox and Easton Cox; his brothers Barry Cox and Terry Cox (Michele); and his sister Barbara Bryan (Bill). He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
