Frederick E. Atkinson

Frederick E. Atkinson, 84, of Scenic Drive, Hagaman, passed away on Monday, December 24, 2007 at St. Mary?s Hospital in Amsterdam. He was born in Amsterdam on November 24, 1923 a son of the late Frederick and Edith Bruso Atkinson. Frederick was a life resident of the area and attended schools in Amsterdam having graduated from Wilbur H. Lynch High School. Following high school, he entered the US ARMY and served during WWII having traveled great distances for combat. He married the former Marcella Boyd of Amsterdam on March 10, 1946 in Jacksonville, FL. Frederick worked for the State of New York in the Office of General Services on the Albany Campus until his retirement over 20 years ago in the 1980?s. He was a member of the Calvary Reformed Church and the Hagaman Seniors for many years. He enjoyed reading, hunting, fishing and especially traveling. Frederick and his wife traveled all over the world to places such as Luxemburg, Yellowstone National Park, Hawaii, England and California. They spent winters in Florida, and even traveled cross-country in an RV. One of the things Frederick was very proud of was the fact that he had a pen-pal in Luxemburg for over 61 years whom he met while serving in the ARMY and someone he never lost touch with. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends. His loving family includes his wife of 61 years, Marcella Atkinson of Hagaman, a daughter, Edith Edward Schiedel of South Carolina, two sons, Neal Atkinson of Hagaman and Roger Sharon Atkinson of Hagaman, two grandsons, Russell Roxanne Atkinson of South Carolina and Darren Atkinson of Hagaman. Funeral Services will be at 6:00PM on Friday, December 28, 2007 at Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave., Amsterdam with Rev. Stanley Craig officiating. The family will receive relatives and friends prior to the services on Friday evening from 4:00 to 6:00PM at the funeral home. Interment will be at 10:00AM on Monday, December 31, at Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
