Frederick S. Berghoff

Frederick S. Berghoff, 98, passed away Monday, September 9, 2013 at The Dobson Home, Chandler, Arizona, after a short illness. Fred was born July 17, 1915, son of F. William and Florence Berghoff, attended Gloversville schools and graduated from The Tilton School, Tilton, New Hampshire. Fred joined his father in the family business; Berghoff's Market, on West Fulton Street in Gloversville in 1933 and became sole owner in 1945. He sold the business in 1968 and retired. After a short retirement, he went to work at the General Electric Company in Schenectady. He enjoyed this second career and retired from there in 1982. Fred was predeceased by his wife of fifty-one years, the former Stella Sylofski, on September 28, 1987 and by a newborn daughter, Linda, in 1950. Fred is survived by two sons, Dr. Ronald Berghoff Cynthia of North Port, Florida, and Jon Berghoff of Tempe, Arizona, and a daughter, Vicki Zingale Joseph of Phoenix, Arizona. He is also survived by seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. He lived most of his life in Gloversville until 2006 when he moved to the Phoenix area. A memorial service will be held at St. Timothy's Catholic Church, Mesa, Arizona. There will be no calling hours. A private service will be held at the convenience of the family and burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery in Gloversville.
