Frederick Thomas Brandt

On Thursday, September 5, 2013, Frederick Thomas Brandt died at Presbyterian Hospital surrounded by his beloved family. Left to mourn are his wife, Rosanne Hollis Brandt, his son and daughter-in-law Peiffer and Lauren Brandt, and his grandchildren Kate, Eleanor, and Davis Brandt. Extended family includes his sister, Pat Brandt Cochran and her husband Jim Cochran, his sister-in-law Lucy Hollis Jones and her husband Wes Jones, and his nieces and nephews Barry Cochran, Robyn Cochran Koch, Hollis Jones, Jordan Jones, and Rosanne Jones. Fred was born in 1942 in Washington, DC to Allen and Ella Brandt. Soon after, his family moved to Bethlehem, PA where he developed childhood friendships that have remained strong for over 60 years. Princeton, NJ (Princeton University, '64) and Hanover, NH (Dartmouth College, '66) were his next stops. With his engineering and MBA degrees obtained, and following brief stops in Washington, DC and Pittsfield, MA (with GE), Charlotte and J.A. Jones Construction Company became home to Rosanne and Fred for almost 40 years. When Fred retired from J.A. Jones in 1998, his colleagues and friends there never lost contact. In 1984, Fred and Rosanne joined Trinity Presbyterian Church in Charlotte. So began a loving dedication to that community of faith. His love took the form of serving as an elder, beautifying the grounds, serving as a member of Trinity's Habitat for Humanity team, planting and harvesting the Friendship Trays Garden, to name just a few. He loved to travel both in the US and internationally, including taking a nine-day trip to West Texas with Rosanne and one of his closest friends, Bob Kirkpatrick, just three weeks ago. Travels closer to home included trips to Litchfield Beach and his beloved beach house and to BBQ contests in the southeast where he served as a judge in over 40 contests. We are grateful for his life with us - eternally grateful. The family would like to thank the doctors and staff of the Emergency Dept., Neuro-ICU, and Harris Hospice at Presbyterian Hospital for their caring services. A service to celebrate the life of Fred Brandt will be held at Trinity Presbyterian Church, on Tuesday, September 10th at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Trinity Presbyterian Church at 3115 Providence Road, Charlotte, NC 2811.
