Frederick "Fred" Wallace Harvey
October 7th, 1934 - May 1st, 2024
Frederick (Fred) Wallace Harvey passed away in the early morning hours of May 1, 2024 at Taos Health Care in Taos, New Mexico, at the age of 89.Frederick was born October 7, 1934 in Sacramento, California to Frederick and Esther (Henkel) Harvey.Frederick worked in construction all of his working career as a Construction Superintendent on projects throughout the United States including 27 months in tropical Hawaii. He began his career as a draftsman and worked for Pacific Gas & Electric for a few years before joining Superior Gunite for the remainder of his working lifetime. Some of his notable, specialized construction jobs included building for the Olympics in Utah, Disneyland in California, Six Flags in California, water dams in Hawaii, Tieton dam rehab in Yakama Washington, and Indian Rock Dam in Pennsylvania. Much of his work was contract work with the Corp of Engineers and Department of the Interior where he worked on water diversion structures in Alcalde and Velarde New Mexico. He met his wife during this time. Fred was a very devoted company man. He was a strong and committed leader who mentored many throughout his career. Even after retirement, he was frequently sought out by other superintendents for his valuable input and advice. Meeting the challenges of his work projects were both his passion and his hobby. He was an avid reader especially with the annual Almanac.Frederick is proceeded in death by his father Frederick, his mother Esther, his sister, Shirley Nelson, and his special cousin Lester Henkel. He is survived by his wife, Catherine, special granddaughter Megan (DJ) Casados, daughters Denise Harrison, Jeanette (Larry) Hill, Denise (Dennis) Knuth, Yvette (Patricio) Martinez, Tanya Herrera (Donovan York), son Eloy (Jeanelle) Romero Jr., Lloyd (Sandra) Toney, grandchildren Katherine (Jeff) Hill, Ryan (Lexy) Martinez, Dylan Romero, Kevin (Marlayna) Herrera, Tyler (Alicia) Romero, Ashtyn Lopez, Kyle (Jordan) Knuth, Alexis (Richard) Romero, Shannon Toney, great-grandchildren Noah, Jakob, Audrey, Andrew, Weston, Paislee, and Caleb, special cousin Dearl Henkel, sisters-in-law Shirley (Edwin) Dominguez, Ivy (Florian) Lovato, plus many cousins and friends.A private viewing for the family will be held in Albuquerque NM.Fred will be interred at Clovis Cemetery in Clovis, CA near his parents, sister and other family members at a date to be determined.
