Frederick Benjamin Shelar
November 20th, 1941 - July 26th, 2016
Mr. Frederick Benjamin Shelar, 74, of Cape Canaveral, Florida passed away peacefully July 26, 2016 at his home. Fred was born November 20, 1941 in Princeton PA. at home to the late Thomas and Alberta Shelar. He was a member of the Lincoln High School class of 1959 in Ellwood City, PA. Following graduation, he attended Geneva College as well as the University of Pittsburgh where he studied chemistry. Mr. Shelar became employed by Beaver Alkali Products, Rochester, PA. from 1963-1968. He then became the owner of Roshel Industries, East Palestine, OH., where he later sold the the business to Roth Steel & Tube, Cleveland, OH, but remained employed until 1976. He then went to work for Sudbury Inc., Cleveland, OH. From 1976-1987. It was in 1987 that he founded Sterling Pipe & Tube of Toledo Ohio where he continued to serve as owner and President. He was a well established, well-known, hard-working, driven business owner who strived to be his best everyday. His success was surely demonstrated over the years as Sterling Pipe & Tube flourished. He was a kind man with a generous soul who loved life. His hobbies included working, playing golf, collecting watches, (which he was featured in the Book, Vintage Panerai, published in 2009), and collecting guns. He loved to travel and never met a stranger. He was a man of great integrity, good moral character, and had traditional family values. Although he had the world at his fingertips, he often said that his greatest accomplishment in life was the birth of his four daughters. They often traveled together making memories everywhere they went. He will truly be missed by many but his legacy will live on through his daughters and those who were close to him. Fred is survived by his four daughters, Wendy Bollinger of Cape Canaveral, Fl., Tammy (Dan) Green of Indian Harbour Beach, Fl., Kristin Whiteman of Oviedo, Fl., and Carrie (Tom) Reeves of Floral city, Fl., Eleven grandchildren, Christopher Oelerich, Corey Bollinger, Dylan Bollinger, Chase Green, Cade Green, Cort Green, Chelsea Kallman, Taylor Whiteman, McKenzie Mrozek, Hayleigh Reeves, and Tommy Reeves. He is also survived by one brother Tom (Judy) Shelar of Carlisle, PA. Sister Amy (Don) Thompson of Floral City, Fl., and a dear, lifelong friend (Peggy Barger) who spent a majority of her time with Fred after he moved to Florida.
