Fredes Gonzalez
August 22nd, 1929 - May 2nd, 2024
On May 2, 2024, Fredes Gonzalez, of Albuquerque, New Mexico, passed away in Florida surrounded by family. Family and friends lovingly referred to Fredes as Fredy. She was born in Matas, Cuba on August 22, 1929, to Celestino and Mercedes Montequin. She had one sister, Edilia. Growing up, she loved to spend time with her father and was always by his side. Fredy was an avid student and attended the University of Havana for ten years where she earned two doctorate degrees in Chemistry and Pharmacy. At University, she loved to Fence and was a very successful and skilled member of the Fencing team. Fredy worked as a chemist prior to and after marrying Isauro before they made the difficult decision to flee from Cuba to the United States, so as to live in a free and democratic country and provide a future for her family. Despite the hardships of having to start over in the US, Fredy worked side by side with Isauro to successfully raise their three children. Fredy’s favorite past times were to travel, shop, spend time with family and friends, but most of all to dance with Isauro. Since 2020, Fredy longed to be reunited with Isauro. Family and friends are saddened by her passing but they will carry her memory in their hearts with a sense of peace knowing that she is once again with her beloved. Fredy is survived by her three children, Alex Gonzalez and wife Joni, Irma Gonzalez, and Ana Mora and husband James, and two grandchildren, Miranda Pluemer and Gabriela Mora. The Rosary will be at 9:30 a.m. followed by Mass at 10 a.m. on Friday, June 21, 2024 at Queen of Heaven Church, 5311 Phoenix Ave. N.E., Albuquerque, NM 87110.
