Obituary G. Richard Jansen passed away peacefully at home on December 23rd, surrounded by his four children. He was born on May 19,1930 on Staten Island, NY. His mother and father were named Enoch and Ruth ne'e Olson. He attended public schools on Staten Island and graduated from Port Richmond HS, attended Cornell University in Ithaca NY and graduated in 1950 with a BA degree in chemistry. He enlisted in the United States Air Force in December 1950 and after basic training he was sent to Tyndal AFB in Panama City Florida where he was assigned to duty as a veterinary technician and later sent to Colorado A&M for training. While there he met a beautiful coed named Coerene Miller and before he finished training and returned to Florida they became engaged. From Florida he was sent to Hickam AFM in Honolulu. While there he received a direct commission as a 2nd lieutenant and was sent to Lowry AFB for training. Richard and Coerene were married on July 5, 1953 at the Presbyterian Church in Fort Morgan, CO and then he and his wife were sent to Ellsworth AFB in Rapid City, SD. They were only there one month when the Korean War ended and he was then separated from active duty. From 1953 to 1954 he and Coerene worked for American Cyanamid in Stamford, CT. In 1954 he entered graduate school at Cornell, and in 1958 received his doctoral degree in biochemistry. While there his wife was quite busy delivering their first two children Norman and Barbara. From 1958 to 1962 he worked as a research biochemist at the DuPont Experimental Station in Wilmington DE where his last two children Kathryn and Ellen were born. In 1962, he and Coerene moved to Scotch Plains, NJ where he worked as a research fellow in the Merck Institute for Therapeutic Research. In 1969 he moved the family to Fort Collins, CO where he was appointed professor and head of the Department of Food Science and Human Nutrition at Colorado State University, where he worked until his retirement in 1990. Richard was a fellow of the American Society for Nutritional Sciences and the Institute of Food Technologists. He was a member of the United Methodist Church and active in his church and eSunday School. He was also a member of the Fort Collins Lions Club. His hobbies were playing tennis, making model ships, boats and airplanes, and reading - especially history. His wife Coerene died September 24, 2016. He is survived by his son Norman and wife Krystal of Portage, MI; daughter Barbara and husband Patrick Dailey of Fort Collins, CO; daughter Kathryn of Denver, CO; daughter Ellen and husband Paul of Marlborough, MA, grandchildren Karl Jansen and his wife Corinne of Redmond, WA; Karen Jansen of Ann Arbor, MI; Erika and husband Bruno Yoshioka of Redmond, WA; Sean Dailey and wife Mandy of Tampa, FL; Eric Dailey of Fort Collins, CO; Ryan Dailey of Fort Collins, CO; Jeffrey Dailey and wife Kim of Pullman, WA; Laurie and husband Pete Sherlock of Denver, CO; David Gorham and wife Ashley of Denver, CO; Katie and husband Bryce Tocquigny of Denver, CO; JP Gorham of Atlanta, GA; Rachel Mager of Marlborough, MA; Kyle Mager of Marlborough, MA, five great-grandaughters, Aria Sherlock, Chloe Jansen, Heidi Gorham, Lexi Tocquigny, Caroline Jansen and one great grand-son Wesley Sherlock.
