Gail Beck Carmichael DuPuis

The force of nature with the name of Gail Beck Carmichael DuPuis entered the world on August 9th, 1929, daughter of businessman Leroy Carmichael and Faith Lindstrom. She attended Rockford High School in Illinois and matriculated her freshman year at Iowa State, Ames. She went to Tucson to visit her mother Faith and step-Dad Volney on a school break and decided she preferred sun to snow. While studying Dietetics and Nutrition at the University of Arizona she fell into a group that hung out in the basement of the Student Union. That was where she met a fraternity student named John (ne Odell) Robert DuPuis. A short engagement, then an 11 year marriage produced 4 children, Gary, Kathy, Brandon, Kim. Gail returned to school to provide for her children and graduated with a degree in Nursing in 1970. After 9 years she was able to retire and pursue her many interests of charities, gardening, Cribbage, and Scrabble. She was an avid traveler, covering 100,000 miles over 20 years in a Winnebago RV. Her sense of adventure included a ride in a helicopter, hot-air ballooning and going on an African Safari at 77. Her son Gary preceded her in death. Her legacy leaves 9 grand-children, 13 great-grandchildren and numerous fur babies.
