Gail des Lauriers
April 5th, 1963 - May 7th, 2019
Gail des Lauriers, 56, spouse of Kelli Edwards died on Tues. May 7, 2019 in Lexington. She was born on April 5, 1963 in Memphis, TN to Bradley C. and Margaret des Lauriers. Gail retired as the Vice President, Human Resources for the Kentucky Blood Center. Other than her spouse and parents she is survived by one brother, Paul (Anne) des Lauriers, Lansing, MI. An avid athlete, Gail enjoyed and excelled in various sports. In her youth, she swam competitively establishing records that stood for 30 years. Ice skating was also a passion, but all sports took a backseat to her love of volleyball. A standout at Elkhart (IN.) Central High School, Gail earned a scholarship to continue her play at Georgetown College. She entered the starting lineup as a freshman and over her four-year career became one of the pillars that built Georgetown College into a national powerhouse A Marketing and Finance degree led Gail to a varied and successful career in the workforce. Starting work as a teen busing tables, she began her career after college at the Thoroughbred Times Magazine. She followed that position with accounting and human resources roles at Joseph-Beth Booksellers. Her experience and people skills eventually led her to work with the Kentucky Blood Center. While at the Kentucky Blood Center, Gail continued her work in human resources serving as the Executive Director for that department. This was the position she held at her retirement. Gail’s greatest passion, however, were the people in her life. From family to her friends she considered family, there was never a call she would not answer. She put her heart and soul into helping those she loved. Whether supporting Kelli as a coach with Georgetown College Softball, spending time with her parents or looking forward to calls and visits with her brother, Paul, Gail made time for everyone. Her generosity to others was certainly a hallmark of her life. In continuation of her giving spirit, the Gail des Lauriers Volleyball Scholarship at Georgetown College is being established. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make donations to the scholarship fund, God’s Pantry, Lexington Humane Society or the Society of Gynecologic Oncology. A Celebration of Life Service will be 5pm Tues., May 21, 2019 at Clark Legacy Center – Brannon Crossing followed by a gathering of family and friends until 8pm.
