Gail Ladwig
May 16th, 1943 - September 17th, 2024
Ladwig, Gail Brenda, 81, passed away on September 17, 2024. She was preceded in death by her parents, Nellie and Leo Miller, brother Ronald Miller and her husband Gerald Ladwig. She is survived by her children, Jerry (Kathy) Ladwig, Christine (John) McMahon, Jennifer (Jim) Martin, and Amy (Scott) Bertram, along with her 12 grandchildren, Alexandra, Elizabeth, Benjamin Ladwig; Sean (Jenna), Ciara, Bridget McMahon; Abby, Katelyn, Blake, Connor Martin; Ford, Vaughn Bertram and great grandson Thomas McMahon.
Gail was born in Royal Oak, Michigan on May 16, 1943. She attended Mercy Nursing school in Detroit, Michigan. Gail married her husband Gerald on November 14, 1964. She was a practicing nurse for more than 20 years in medical surgical nursing and intensive care and later completed her Master of Science in Nursing through Wayne State University. She was a beloved Nursing Instructor and Faculty member at Jackson Community College and trained countless nurses in Jackson, as well as founding a BSN program in partnership with the University of Michigan. Her passion project with her dear friend and colleague Betty Ackley was the “Nursing Diagnosis Handbook” leaving a legacy of Nursing Instruction that reaches countless nurses across many countries. She presented nationally and internationally on Nursing Diagnosis including Paris, Tokyo and Puerto Rico.
Gail loved to travel and took pilgrimages to Fatima and Rome. Gail was an active member of her church community for many years at Queen of the Miraculous Medal in Jackson, MI, Holy Family in Hilton Head, SC, and St. Francis in Hilton Head, SC. Gail enjoyed living on Hilton Head Island during her retirement. Her days were filled with friends and activities; riding her bicycle, playing bocce, water aerobics and growing prize winning orchids. Her greatest joy was visiting with her children and grandchildren and traveling to see their graduations.
Her Funeral Mass will be held at St. Francis by the Sea Catholic Church, Hilton Head Island, SC on October 4th at 10am. A luncheon will follow at the Country Club of Hilton Head. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to Volunteers in Medicine.
