Gail W. Simmons
December 18th, 1933 - March 5th, 2009
Gail W. Simmons was taken from us to be with our Lord and Savior on Thursday, March 5 2009. She was the second child born to Edward and Charlotte Weisenbach in Trenton, NJ, on December 18, 1933. Gail attended several colleges and began her teaching career on the East coast. Gail married her soul mate, Duane, on February 11, 1956. They moved to Washington and raised six children while she was teaching full time and substituting until her retirement from the Sumner School District in June, 2000. The very next fall she was back at school volunteering her time where and when she was requested. Gail’s passion was spending time with children and teaching. She took every opportunity to advance a child’s education with focus on those with special needs. In addition if there was extra help needed with studies, she did not hesitate to offer her help in tutoring those children. Hobbies she shared with her family included Girl Scouting for over 15 years, clam digging, gold prospecting, cooking, sewing, gardening, and beachcombing. She was also an avid sports fan, especially of her grandkids’ activities. Gail is survived by her loving husband Duane and their six children, Debra Makowski (Brian), Jay Simmons (Debbie), Glenn Simmons, Kip Simmons, Sue Cearley (Terry) and Tammie Dahlquist (Tim); seven grandchildren Kristi, Justin, Duane III, Miranda, Kaden, Kayla, Kelsey, and Anthony; and four great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her mother Charlotte Weisenbach (102), siblings Connie Wolfe, Jack Weisenbach (Gail) and James Weisenbach (Janet). Gail was preceded in death by her father, Edward Weisenbach. Funeral Services are to be held at Sumner United Methodist Church, 901 Wood Ave on Saturday, March 14, 2009, at 11:00 AM with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Sumner School District (memo to Gail Simmons) and mailed to Liberty Ridge Elementary School, 12202-209th Ct E, Bonney Lake WA 98391. Please visit www.curnow.com and sign her guestbook. Arrangements by Curnow Funeral Home & Cremation Service. 863-2800.
