Gail Grant Winters, 88, of Greeley, Colorado passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 28, 2024, surrounded by loved ones.  He was born February 10, 1936, in Springfield, CO to Lon Scott and Ruby Alice Winters.  He grew up in Springfield and graduated from Springfield High School in 1955.  Gail excelled in sports, lettering in Football, Basketball, Baseball and Track. He then enlisted in the U.S Air Force. After the Air Force he became a Colorado State Trooper.  He met his life mate and best friend, Sherry, the two were married on November 19, 1970. Together, they had two children, Justin and Jennifer. Gail was deeply committed to his family; it was important to him to leave his children with a solid foundation from which to grow their success in life.  Gail retired early from Kodak in Windsor, Co after 20 years as a safety manager and security advisor in 1990.

After retirement, Gail and Sherry bought an RV and started travelling.  They toured the United States, Canada and Mexico, traveling over 90,000 miles.  Puerto Penasco, Mexico became a favorite spot.  At age 48, Gail got his private pilot’s license and flew Cessna’s for several years.  Gail was an original Colorado Rockies ticket holder, collector and even played pickle-ball weekly up to age 81. Gail was a friend to many and will be missed by all who knew him. Gail and Sherry were married for 53 beautiful years, we find peace in knowing that they are reunited again. Gail’s smile, laugh and love for life will be missed.

Gail is survived by his son Justin of Timnath, CO, daughter Jennifer Merck and son in law Jeremy of Fort Collins, CO, daughter Susan of Salt Lake City UT, his sister Karen Edwards of Greeley CO, numerous grandchildren, aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces, his beloved cat, Macey and many, many friends.

A fitting quote that he appreciated “I want to be thoroughly used up when I die”.  Gail certainly lived life to the fullest. Only you get to decide when your life’s work is done, thank you for making this possible.  Love, Gail
