Gareth Flora

September 14th, 1938 - August 23rd, 2024

Gareth (Gary) Donald Flora was born in Elgin, Illinois on September 14, 1938, to Donald and Margorie Flora. He spent his childhood years with his parents and sister Pat (who along with her husband Terry survives him in death) in Elgin where he graduated from Elgin High School in 1956. Gary then headed off for adventure, attending the University of Denver to enjoy his college years with his Phi Kappa Theta brothers. He earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering and later an MBA from DU. Upon graduation, Gary began his engineering career in 1960 with Martin Marietta in Littleton, Colorado. His first job also became his last, as he enjoyed a rewarding and successful career that spanned 40 years. He retired as a vice president from Lockheed Martin Space Systems after holding many positions which contributed to the field of space exploration and to the defense of the country he loved. He was a true asset to the corporation and an American patriot.

Gary was the father of two sons Erick (Kate) and Christopher (Amber) Flora, grandfather of 5 grandchildren, and a man of influence to many extended family members, and countless friends. He was blessed to find his wife Margie in 2019, and they enjoyed their later retirement years together. The Lutheran church held a special place in Gary’s heart, and he was always an active member wherever he attended. Spirit of Hope Lutheran in Parker, Colorado became his final church home, and he enjoyed singing in the choir and fellowshipping with his church family. His love for music spilled over into his social life as he and Margie spent wonderful evenings at the Perfect Landing piano bar, enjoying friends and singing favorite tunes. Gary’s humor came easily as did his infectious smile, bringing laughter to all around him. He entered his heavenly home on August 23, 2024, with his beloved wife Margie by his side. He will be sorely missed by those who loved him.

Please join us for a celebration of Gary’s life at Spirit of Hope Lutheran Church in Parker, Colorado on Saturday September 14, 2024, at 11:00 am.

In lieu of flowers please consider donating to Spirit of Hope Lutheran Church Worship & Music Program in his name.
