Garland Eugene "Gene" Gilbert
October 5th, 1958 - April 15th, 2019
Garland Eugene “Gene” Gilbert, 60, went home to be with the Lord and his loved ones on Monday April 15, 2019. Graveside Funeral Services celebrating his life will be 2:00PM Thursday April 18, 2019 at Palmyra United Methodist Church Cemetery, 5076 NC Hwy 8 S., Germanton, NC 27109. Gene was born in West Jefferson, NC, on October 5, 1958, he was the husband of Frances “Frannie” Gilbert and the son of the late, Jonas Bud Gilbert and Annie Hill Brown. He was a hard worker, working most of his life in construction and operating heavy equipment. Gene was a true family man who loved to joke and pick around. He was loved by all who knew him. He was the best husband, dad and grandfather. Survivors, whom he loved very much, include his wife, Frannie of the home; sons, Marshall Eugene Gilbert and Christle of Walkertown, and Tony Gilbert and Heather of Pfafftown; grandchildren, Corbin, Dillon, Chase, C.J. and Molly, Cheyenne, Kayla, Kaitlyn, Abigail, Nick, Cody, Amanda, and Layla Bug; sisters, Virginia White and husband, Junior, and Frances Minton; sister-in-law, Eunice Conway and husband, John; nieces, Tracy White, Paula White, Norma Tanner and husband, Tim, Pam Clayton, and Maria Clayton; nephews, Paul Lawson, Frank Lawson and wife, Sandra, Kenneth White and wife, Kathy, and Keith Clayton; mother-in-law, Evie “GG” Gordon; and many special friends. In addition to his parents, Gene, was preceded in death by his son, Christopher Joe Hembree; grandson, Anthony Wayne Gilbert, Jr.; sister, Betty Martin; step-father, George Brown; and father-in-law, Leroy Gordon. The family will visit with friends prior to the service on Thursday at Pierce-Jefferson Funeral Service from 12:30PM to 1:30PM.
