Garner McDonald Yachats resident Garner McDonald, age 69, died in Eugene, OR, of complications from a fall over a year before. Garner is survived by his first wife Myra Thomas McDonald Robinson (Ronald) of Huntsville AL, their son Jay McDonald (Connie), and granddaughter Emilee McDonald of Cullman AL. Garner is also survived by his second wife, Ellen Munson McDonald, sister Rogene McDonald Ellis (Larry) of Jupiter FL, niece Apryl Ellis Scalici (Steven) and family of Jupiter FL, and nephew Jason Ellis of Athens, GA. His parents, Linton J McDonald and Janie Garner McDonald of Fairhope, AL, predeceased him. He was married to his second wife, Ellen, when he died. They had been married 45 years. Garner was born in Meridian MS but spent most of his childhood in Daphne and Fairhope AL. He attended the University of Alabama, graduating with a BS in metallurgical engineering. He attended Purdue University and graduated with a MS in materials science. He came to Oregon in 1980 to work at the U.S. Bureau of Mines in Albany, where he worked until his retirement. After Ellen retired, they moved from Albany to Yachats, OR. Garner enjoyed volunteering. In Albany, he was an active member in the Greater Albany Rotary club and volunteered at the Albany Visitor Center. In Yachats, he volunteered at the Yachats Visitor Center and the Cape Perpetua Visitor Center. He was involved in Yachats city activities by being a member of the Yachats Academy of Arts and Sciences and the City of Yachats Public Works Commission. He was a member of the Rotary eClub State of Jefferson, an online Rotary Club, at the time of his death. No services are being held at his request. Friends wishing to honor Garner in some way can donate either to Rotary or to Safe Haven animal shelter.
