A memorial service will be held for C. Gary Cooper M.D., 67 of Chico , on Friday, Jan. 30, 2009 at 1 p.m. at the Bidwell Presbyterian Church. Gary passed away suddenly on Saturday, Jan. 24, 2009 at Enloe Hospital. He was born April 7, 1941 in Texarkana, TX to Clarence and Lucille Cooper. Gary was a general surgeon in Chico from 1972 until he retired in 2007. For many years he was the Chief of Trauma Services at Enloe Medical Center and he initiated the Bariatric Surgery Program in Butte County. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed traveling, gardening, fishing, reading, cycling, scuba diving, and golf. He loved his children and spending time with friends and extended family. Survivors include his best friend and wife, Ruthie of Chico; daughter, Jane Anne (Julie) Cooper of Sacramento; two sons, William (Michele) Cooper of Chico and Jacob Cooper of Chico; sister, Barbara Ann Little of Heber Springs, AR; four grandchildren, Mary, Austin, McKenzie and Lawson. Visitation will be held Thursday evening from 5-8 p.m. at the Brusie Funeral Home. Donations may be made to the Enloe Foundation in care of the funeral home.
