Mr. Gary R. Darling, 70, of Gloversville, passed away December 20, following a long illness. He was born May 28, 1942 in Gloversville, son of the late Richard C. and Evelyn Fisher Darling. Mr. Darling was educated in Gloversville schools and served in the Air Force during the Korean Conflict. Early in his life, Gary worked in the family business, R.C. Darling Movers. A machine operator most of his life, Gary worked for the Taylor Corp. in Johnstown for a time, but spent most of his career with Fiber Conversion, before retiring. Gary enjoyed camping and cars, whether model cars or car shows, he was always excited. He especially liked NASCAR and Jeff Gordon. His first wife, Anna E. Bruse Darling, pre-deceased him in 1991. Survivors include his wife Ellen Collins Darling of Gloversville, whom he married in 1994. Gary is survived by a daughter Rebecca L. Sweet Don of Broadalbin, sisters Carol Cramer of Gloversville, Janet Austin of Fonda and Patricia Van Slyke of Gloversville and a brother Wayne Darling Maureen of Georgia. Gary also leaves a grandson Ryan Sweet, step-daughters: Alice Steele Lee of Ballston Spa, Amanda Teeling Ean of Lake Luzerne, Sharon Ofiara Skip and Bonnie Fox Alan both of Amsterdam. Surviving step-sons include Douglas Teeling Ed of Schenectady, Duane Teeling Millie, Kenneth Teeling Melissa and Timothy Husvar Maxine all of Gloversville, several step-grandchildren, step-great grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by a sister Joan Walker and brothers; Ed, Roy, Carl, Jack and Rick Darling. A funeral service will be held 1 pm Friday December 28, 2012 at Jefford's & Stewart Funeral Home, 85 W. Main St. Broadalbin with Reverend David Almleaf officiating. The family will receive friends on Friday from 11-1 pm prior to the service. Burial will be in Union Mills Cemetery, Broadalbin in the Spring.
