Gary “John” Harris passed away September 16, 2024. John was born July 19, 1941 to Hubert (Freddie) Harris and Deon Badham Harris in Los Angeles, CA. He was raised in Los Angeles with his two sisters, before moving to Orem, UT as a teenager.

John was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Georgene Gividen Harris, daughter Charlene, son Gary, and his parents.

He is survived by his sisters Sharon Harris Rich and Judy Harris Dunston, daughters Sheli Patenaude and Jami Rainey, sons Jody Harris, Michael Harris and Trenton Harris, and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.

John was a proud Navy Chief, serving 24 years for his country. He served three tours in Viet Nam. His biggest accomplishment would be his contributions on the Tomahawk program. He and Georgene raised their family in Navy towns, moving between San Diego and The Great Lakes area several times, spending most of their residence in San Diego. Upon retiring from the Navy, John took a job in St Louis at McDonnell Douglas as an Engineer. After they closed, he took an Engineering Manager role with Northrup Grummon, eventually working in Colorado Springs, CO while living in Peyton, CO.

John enjoyed sports, especially his Southern California professional and college teams. He played when he was younger, and coached Navy teams when he could no longer play. He loved to laugh and make friends.

He will be cremated and rest at the Pikes Peak Veterans Cemetery in Colorado Springs, CO.
