Gary Richard Hoover
September 16th, 1936 - October 31st, 2016
Gary Richard Hoover, 80, of Tucson, AZ died peacefully at his home on Monday, October 31, 2016. Gary was born September 16, 1936 in Princeton, Illinois to Myron C. and Eleanor M. Hoover. He graduated from Tucson High School in 1954, where he was an excellent trombonist and was President of the Tucson High School Hi Cats Dance Band. He joined the United States Navy shortly after high school where he served for 7 years and was stationed in Okinawa, Japan. After the Navy, he worked for American Smelting and Refining Company (ASARCO) and then in 1968 went to work for M.M. Sundt Construction Company in the Equipment Services Department supporting the Company's fleet of heavy equipment. He worked for Sundt for 33 years until he retired in 2001. He was immensely proud of his career with Sundt, never missing a day of work. He is survived by Mona, his wife of 60 years and his three children, Teri Reed (Buddy) of Austin, TX, Mike Hoover (Marie) of Scottsdale, AZ and Diane Tietjen of Dallas, TX. He took great pride in his seven grandchildren: Kelly Lewis, Allison Reed, Thomas Reed, Zach Hoover, Callie Hoover, Taylor Tietjen, Parker Tietjen and 4 great grandchildren: Cooper and Ellie Reed, Leonardo and Zaylek Torres. A celebration of life will be held on Friday, November 18, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. at Bring's Funeral Home, 6910 East Broadway, Tucson, Arizona. The family requests in lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Gospel Rescue Mission, 312 W. 28th Street, Tucson, AZ 85713.
