Gary Lee Schwartz

Gary Lee Schwartz, 61, of Greeley, CO passed away June 15, 2012 while doing something that he loved. He was born August 11, 1950 in Denver, CO to Reuben and Betty (Hoff) Schwartz. Gary was raised in Greeley where he attended schools and graduated from Greeley Central in 1968. He attended Aims Community College in Greeley where he obtained his associates degree in accounting. Gary enlisted in the United States Army and served as a helicopter crew chief during the Viet Nam Conflict. Gary was proud that he served his country. After Viet Nam Gary came back to Greeley to work for the family business, Economy RV Inc. On April 12, 1986 he married Diana Longwell. Gary really loved fishing and camping. Belly boating and Ice fishing were his real passion, specifically around Walden, CO. He also enjoyed riding ATV’s with his group of great friends. He always had a book in his hand. He enjoyed working in the yard, and of course watching The Denver Broncos. There wasn’t anyone who got away from having a conversation with Gary without him teasing them and then having a good laugh about it. When he was younger, he loved Motor Cross racing and was in bowling leagues for years. He was most fond of spending time with family and friends; one of his greatest passions was cheering on his grandson at his baseball games, Gary never missed a game. He was a long time parishioner of St. Peter Roman Catholic Church in Greeley and was an honorary member of the La Salle Volunteer Fire Department. Gary is survived by his wife, Diana; children, Wendy (Jesse) Mendez of LaSalle, CO and Jackie Ropp of San Diego, CA; three grandchildren, Andreas, Desirae and Trinity; brothers, Donald (Debra), Richard (Karen), and Bradley (Dawn) Schwartz. He was preceded in death by his parents, Reuben and Betty; and sister, Sue. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. Tuesday, June 19, 2012 at Adamson Chapel. Recitation of the Rosary will begin at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, June 20, 2012 followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 2:00 p.m. at St. Peter Catholic Church 915 12th Street, Greeley. Interment will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens. A reception after the Interment will be held at the La Salle Fire Department 118 Main St. LaSalle, CO.
