Gary Leroy Steward, 76, went to be with his Lord on Thursday November 9, 2017 at North Colorado Medical Center in Greeley, CO. Gary was born March 19, 1941 in Lyons, KS to Harry and Rita (Downen) Steward. He grew up and attended school in Sterling KS. During high school in Sterling, Gary’s joy was music. He sang and was in the band. During his senior year he became interested in mathematics. In August of 1960, shortly after graduation, he married his high school sweetheart, Judy Martin. Gary attended Wichita State University and then moved to Greeley, CO with Judy in 1963. He attended the University of Northern Colorado and graduated with his BA degree. Gary spent the next 29 years working in various capacities for District 6 schools in Greeley. He started as a janitor at the new John Evans Jr High in 1965. After receiving his degree, he began teaching mathematics at John Evans. Gary also taught mathematics at Meeker Jr High School and Greeley West High School. In 1977 Gary became the mathematics coordinator of the district and became the Director of Information Systems in 1983. Gary had a hand in many changes and improvements to the technology program in the district. In 1994, Gary accepted a position to be on the Data Review and Acquisition committee for the Greater Dallas, TX ISD districts. In 1997 Gary and Judy moved back to Greeley, CO. Gary worked in different capacities utilizing his impressive computer skills. Even after retiring, he continued to help people with computer work and helping them preserve their memories digitally. His children were greatly blessed by the DVDs he created showcasing Judy’s life. Gary will be remembered for his incredible love for God and his service to others. Throughout his life, Gary remained active in church and with his music. He used his beautiful voice and music skills to praise his beloved Father in Heaven. Gary was a member of Generations Church in Greeley, bible studies and various church groups. After he lost Judy, he filled his time with volunteer work. He drove for Meals on Wheels and Senior Resource Services of Weld County, helping those who needed him. Gary is survived by his children and their spouses, Curtis Steward, James (Jane) Steward, Anne (Eric) Mioduski and Kristina Baxter. He loved his grandchildren Jessie Steward, Tara Steward, Keturah Baxter, Jalon Baxter, Michael Mioduski and Matthew Mioduski. He is also survived by his sister Kay Hedges, brother Ronald Steward and a large extended family in Kansas and Texas. He was preceded in death by his parents Harry and Rita Steward, his wife Judy Steward and granddaughter Shelley Steward. A Life Celebration Service will be held on Tuesday November 21, 2017 at 11:00 am at Generations Church, 3600 22nd Street, Greeley CO. Memorial contributions may be made to "Generations Church” in care of Adamson Funeral & Cremation, 2000 47th Ave., Greeley, CO 80634.
