Geneva Middleton
October 9th, 1917 - October 24th, 2009
Geneva Lois Isom Middleton, 92, went home to be with the Lord Saturday night, October 24, 2009 at Wesley Long Community Hospital. The loving woman known by many endearing names such as Mom, Mommy, Grandma, and Granny just to name a few was born October 9, 1917 to sharecroppers Zack Henry Isom and Louisa (Isa Lou) Abbott Isom. Geneva, a native of Walnut Cove, NC, was the Granddaughter of Joseph Isom after whom the Isom Baptist Church of Walnut Cove is named. Granny, as many called her in her later years, was preceded in death by her parents, nine siblings, nieces, and nephews. She is survived by her six children; Lorraine Middleton Whorley, Robert Leonard Middleton, Wayne Harold Middleton, Alan Hale Middleton, Billy Ray Middleton, and Lois Middleton Renn, 15 grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild, along with many spouses, nieces, nephews and loving friends. Living a very simple life, she cared for and brought joy to many. Granny worked very hard her whole life, from working the farm as a child, mill work, many years at Woolworth's department store in Greensboro, to retiring and continuing to care for friends, relatives and grandchildren. She never stopped caring for others regardless of her own wellbeing. Her sincere love for her family and desire to make sure they were all safe and happy is believed to be the drive for her passion for life. Her strong will to live was evident through her living long past her siblings, younger and older. Love is what kept her with us for so long. She would always say, no matter her condition, "Be careful, take care of my babies and hurry back". Her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren are all very thankful for the many years of love, care and memories that she gave to us. She will be greatly missed and forever live in the hearts of all who were blessed to know and love her. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to Hospice of Greensboro.
