Genevieve R. Gobis

Genevieve R. Gobis, 85, formerly of John St., Amsterdam and most recently of Ft. Hunter, NY passed away Monday May 30, 2011 at St. Mary?s Hospital in Amsterdam. Born in Amsterdam, NY on June 1, 1925 a daughter of Frank and Stefania Szatus Gobis. She was a lifelong Amsterdam resident and attended Amsterdam Schools. Genevieve was a graduate of the former Amsterdam School of Commerce. She was employed by the city of Amsterdam for many years and worked as City Clerk. She also worked for a time for the former Larabie?s Department Store in Amsterdam. Genevieve was very active in the former St. Casimir?s Roman Catholic Church in Amsterdam. She was a member of the church?s Living Rosary Society and was a longtime member of the church choir. She was the former Secretary and Treasurer of the Council #100 Knights of Lithuania. She also was a Delegate for the Mid-Atlantic District Convention of the Knights. Genevieve was an avid bowler and was on the St. Casimir?s Church Team. She is survived by her dear friend Ida Slansky and her husband Paul of Ft. Hunter, NY. Robert Camacho of Ft. Hunter, NY, Tina and Al Camacho of Amsterdam and Lillian Murillo of Amsterdam. Funeral Services will be held on Thursday June 2, 2011 at 3:00P.M. at the Betz, Rossi & Bellinger Family Funeral Home, 171 Guy Park Ave, Amsterdam with Deacon Michael Ryba presiding. Interment will be in St. Casimir?s Cemetery, Amsterdam. Calling hours will be held on Thursday from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at the funeral home. Memorial Contributions may be made to the Community Hospice of Amsterdam c/o the funeral home office.
