Mr. George Batease, 72, of Gloversville passed away on Tuesday June 6, 2023, at St Johnsville Nursing Home with his loving family by his side. He was born in Bennington, VT on November 2, 1950, to John Batease and Shirley Cleveland Batease. George attended local schools for a short time before becoming a Carpenter. In 1968 George bravely enlisted in the United States Marine Corps where he served his nation for nearly two years during the Vietnam War. He attained the rank of Lance Corporal, received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and Vietnam Service Medal with a Bronze Star. He was honorably discharged in 1970. George worked a number of positions at local companies including various mills in Amsterdam and Gloversville but his main passion was carpentry and engineering. He loved to tinker and was considered a "Jack of all Trades." In his spare time George enjoyed working with his hands, he loved old country music and spending time with his family. He will be remembered as a quiet source of support for his loved ones; he never failed to call all his siblings on every birthday or holiday. George spent over 30 years of his life united in marriage to Adelia "Mary" Ellsworth until her untimely passing. In 2012 George was reunited with his first love, Janet Cerulli. They were united in marriage again on August 25, 2012. Janet and George remained happily married until her passing on March 31, 2023. In addition to his spouses, George was preceded in death by his parents John and Shirley, as well as his siblings; Jennie Lasher, Eleanor Follette, Elaine Crouse, and Tammy Bottisti. He is survived by his children Jaime (Jason) Woods of Gloversville, Sandra Anderson of Gloversville, Melissa Rinehart of PA, and Craig Rinehart of FL. His siblings include Raymond (Marlene) Batease of FL, John Batease of Amsterdam, Susan Braender of Amsterdam and Dan Batease of Caroga Lake. He also leaves behind several grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A Celebration of life will be held at Hagaman Firehouse on June 17th at 2pm, George and wife (Janet) will be interred on June 19th at 10am at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery (200 Duell Rd, Schuylerville NY 12871) with full military honors. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Pawsitivty Service Dogs who provide service dogs for Veterans suffering from PTSD at www.pawsitivityservicedogs.com/honor or 197 Griggs St. N., St. Paul, MN 55104.
