George Edward (Ted) Bobbin, age 95, of Punta Gorda, FL, passed away on September 12, 2020. He was the loving husband of Ann Bobbin. While married to Cherry Bobbin, from 1950 to 1982, they had three children, Terrye Mola, David Bobbin, and Tom Bobbin. Ted was born on March 17, 1925, in Sunderland, England, the son of Thomas Peacock Bobbin and Jean Simpson Bobbin. He was predeceased by his brothers Jack and Peter, and sister Nina. In addition to his wife, Ann, and two surviving children, Terrye and David, Ted is survived by his grandchildren, Tiffany Payne Malkin, Timothy Bobbin, Walker Hanson, Willow Hanson, and Trevor Bobbin. He is also survived by his great grandchildren, Talulah and Wyatt Malkin. Ted’s British survivors include nieces Rachael, Angela, Fiona, nephews Stephen and Julian Bobbin, and their respective children and grandchildren. Ted began his career as a cadet in the Royal Air Force in 1943, and after being assigned to flight school in the United States, returned to England until WWll was over. In 1949 he was eligible to join the USAF and was stationed at Carswell Air Force Base in Fort Worth, Texas, where he met Cherry Burch Bobbin. When he left the Air Force in 1952, he worked as a corporate pilot for various companies. In 1966 the family moved from Fort Worth, Texas to Stamford Connecticut, due to new employment with Seagrams Distilleries in New York City. He was hired to fly the corporate executives to meetings, nationally and internationally. Descending from a long line of seamen, Ted loved to sail. In the late 70’s, he had a boat charter business in the British Virgin Islands. Ted lived on one of his boats in Greenwich Connecticut in the early 80’s. It was there he met his current wife, Ann. They retired to Punta Gorda, Florida in the late 80’s. They belonged to Isles Yacht Club there, where they loved to dine, listen to music and dance. Ted loved a good dark beer, and often, a Gimlet. Ted was a member of the Peace River Power Squadron. He was also a member of the Punta Gorda Civil Air Patrol, and he flew for them in to his 70’s. Ted will be missed by family and lifelong friends. We raise a virtual glass to his long and adventuresome life! Because of COVID 19, celebrating Ted’s life will be announced at a future time. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to rescue.org.
