George M. Brigham

March 15th, 2011

passed away March 4th after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was 83 years old. A native of Oregon, George graduated from Milwaukie High School and ignoring a scholarship to play football, entered the Army. He earned the rank of sergeant. He was honored to serve his country at the time of the Second World War. George returned to Oregon and began a family. He went to work for the telephone company. He was proud of the fact that over the 30 plus years he worked with the company that he rose to a middle management position. He developed lasting friendship with many of his co-workers. George enjoyed the outdoors, camping and boating. He was an avid fisherman and later took up the game of golf. He enjoyed gardening and took a special interest in Bonsai plants. After retirement, George enjoyed traveling. He visited Germany when the Berlin Wall fell. He and his wife spent time in Hawaii and Palm Springs. He developed a flair for photography and was an avid crossword puzzle solver. George was a life long member of the Maritime Masonic Lodge. A memorial service will be held on 3-25-11 at 11 a.m. at the West Linn Lutheran Church. Viewing begins at 10 a.m. Interment will follow at Willamette National Cemetery at 2 p.m. George is survived by his wife, Elsie, three sons, Glen of Eugene, Ron of Sherwood, and Craig of Charlotte, NC , a step-son, Ron Petersen of Portland, OR, five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Diabetes Association. Arrangements by Autumn Funerals, Cremation & Burial – Tigard, Oregon
