George Gheen Christoffersen

September 1st, 1928 - November 10th, 2012

George Gheen Christoffersen, 84, of Homedale died, Saturday, November 10, 2012 at home surrounded by his family. George was born on September 1, 1928 in Worland, WY to George and Marjorie (Gheen) Christoffersen. Their family moved to Richmond, UT after he was born. He attended Cache Valley High School until he enlisted in the US Navy in Sept. 29, 1945. He honorably served until 1949. George married Elona Murray on April 9, 1950 in Elko, NV and they were sealed in the Logan LDS Temple in 1949. George and Elona were blessed with 7 children: Sheila, Kathy, Brent, Mechelle, Julie, Steven, and Gheen. George and Elona lived in many places in there early years of marriage, settling in Homedale in Oct of 1964. George worked in the dairy, ranching, and produce industries. In 1977 he started working in the trucking business and was still actively involved until he passed away. George was a lifelong member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and served in many callings. He also enjoyed seeing the country and meeting new people while covering many miles in his trucks. He truly never knew a stranger and before the first conversation was over, he seemed to know their entire life story. George loved working with horses, and chasing wild horses in the deserts of Utah. He was a devoted and loving husband, father, and grandfather and was very proud of all the accomplishments of his children and grandchildren. He is survived by wife Elona of 62 years. A sister, Constance Hyer of Homedale, Greg Christoffersen of Hyde Park, UT. Children: Sheila (Kelly) Leavitt of Homedale, Brent (Christine) Christoffersen of Crosby, TX, Mechelle (Dallas) Jeffries of Homedale, Julie Christoffersen of Boise, Steven (Amy) Christoffersen of Caldwell, and Gheen (Devra) Christoffersen of Homedale. 23 Grandchildren, 35 Great-Grandchildren, and 5 Great-Great-Grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his mom & dad, a sister, Claire King, and daughter Kathy “Kate” Christoffersen. In lieu of Flowers the family suggests making a donation to your favorite charity. A viewing will be held Thursday, November 15, 2012, 6:00 - 8:00PM at Flahiff Funeral Chapel (27 E. Owyhee), Homedale. George’s funeral service will be held Friday, November 16, 2012, 11:00AM at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Homedale with another viewing starting at 9:00AM.
