George E. Clitty
August 12th, 1954 - July 23rd, 2023
George E. Clitty, our beloved storyteller, chief cook, and pot-stirrer, passed peacefully on July 23, 2023, surrounded by his family. Born on August 12, 1954, to George F. and C. Jean (Fonke) Clitty in Monticello, MN. Preceded in death by his parents and brother, John. George is survived by his wife of 45 years, Louise; daughter, Katherine (Kloetty); son, Samuel; and little sister, Mary P. (Kloety); along with many more family members, both blood and chosen. George graduated valedictorian from Becker H.S. and continued to on Lawrence University, receiving his BA in German and Russian Languages . His natural ability to connect with everyone in whatever language led him to a storied career in international sales and traveled the world. He even was the star of a Russian car battery commercial in the late 90s! George’s one true passion was cooking. Family and friends never went home without a full belly. Everyone was welcome at the table. While he often liked to stir the pot while stirring a pot, he would make sure everyone who came to the house felt welcome. He volunteered at the Dorothy Day Center for many years. It brought him immense joy being able to share his love of food with everyone. When a spinal cord injury halted many of his activities, he would delight in telling grand (and mostly true) stories to whomever would listen, and maintained a good sense of humor to the end. And when his disability no longer allowed him to cook a meal, he enjoyed acting as the kitchen supervisor. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Morton Cure Paralysis Fund, the Courage Kenny Rehabilitation Institute Fund, or the Dorothy Day Center. A gathering to celebrate George’s life will be held on Saturday, August 5th at Willwerscheid West-Heights Funeral Home, 235 Wentworth Avenue West, West St. Paul, MN from 4pm-6pm.

Willwerscheid Funeral Home & Cremation Service - West-Heights
Since 1886, the Willwerscheid family has helped Saint Paul families navigate grief and plan funerals, cremation services, and life celebration services. Our business was started by John Adam Willwerscheid, a second generation American and father of eight over 100 years ago. While a lot has changed since then, our commitment to caring for families hasn't. We know that finding the right funeral home is important, and we are grateful that families continue to trust us to take care of their loved ones....
