George W. DeWolfe
December 11th, 1926 - December 21st, 2014
"South Hadley, George W. DeWolfe, 88, died on December 21, 2014 at Holyoke Medical Center. He was born in Kingston, PA on December 11, 1926 and was the son of Clarence and Leona (Kishbaugh) DeWolfe. George proudly served his country in the Marines during WWII, making the rank of Corporal and was a Rifle Marksman. He was one of the many brave men involved in the Battle of Iwo Jima and served in the Chinese Reconstruction. He had the privilege to be on the Honor Flight on October 19, 2014 to see the WWII Monument in Washington, DC. George was an accomplished carpenter and a member of the Local 108 Carpenters Union, he retired after 50 years of dedicated work. In his leisure, he enjoyed tending to his gardens and fruit trees, long walks and the people he met along the way, jigsaw puzzles, antique watch collecting, driving his antique car and truck and time with his family. He will be deeply missed by his daughter, Arlene Laflamme and her husband Maurice of S.Hadley and his four grandchildren, Matthew Laflamme and his wife Tina, Jason, Ben and Daisie Laflamme and three great grandchildren, Amber, Chase and Hunter. He also leaves several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides his parents, George was predeceased by his wife Doris M. (Madru) in 2014 as well as his siblings, Russell, William, Clarence, Franklin, Caroline, Kate, Martha, Doll and Charlotte. The family extends their gratitude to the Soldiers' Home in Holyoke for the wonderful love and care provided to George by the staff over the past two and a half years. A Funeral Service will be on Tuesday, December 30th at 11:45 a.m. at Beers & Story South Hadley Funeral Home, 646 Newton St. Burial will follow in the Massachusetts Veterans' Cemetery. A calling hour from 10:30 to 11:45 will precede the service. Memorial donations in his memory may be made to The Soldiers' Home in Holyoke, 35 Cherry St., Holyoke, MA 01040. "
