George Sewell Eberhardt, Jr

George Sewell Eberhardt Jr. was born at home on a hot summers day in Clark County, GA, outside of Athens, on July 31, 1939. His parents were George S. Eberhardt Sr. and Willie Claude Wheeles Eberhardt. George passed away in St. Petersburg on February 24, 2023 at the age of 83. He was buried at Burts Methodist Church Cemetery in Oglethorpe County Georgia, alongside his great-grandfather, who was a Civil War veteran, his grandfather, and his father. George served in the Navy for nine years. He took part in the Cuban Missile Crisis and Vietnam War. He returned from Vietnam and joined the Police Department of Oakland, CA, from which he retired as a Police Sergeant after twenty-one years of service. George was married to his high school sweetheart Brenda Faye Sanford, a marriage that lasted until her death from cancer fifty-three years later. He is survived by two daughters, three grandsons and six great-grandchildren. George accepted Christ at an early age and was of the Baptist faith.
