FRANKLIN, George Flickwir, of Land O’ Lakes Florida, passed away October 28, 2014. He was born in Niagara Falls, NY to Neville Lewis Franklin and Vera T. Franklin. He was the grandson of George Thomas Franklin and Mae Belle Thomasson Franklin of Bassett, Virginia. George is a graduate of Bassett High School and Brevard Junior College in Melbourne, Florida. He served four years in the United States Air Force as an instrument technician. After serving, George went to work for Hercules Powder Company in Radford, Virginia. He later moved to Florida, worked at Cape Canaveral for Boeing, Rockwell, then retired from General Cable in Tampa. George was a member of the Lutz and Land O’ Lakes Lions Club since 1999. He is preceded in death by his daughter, Carolyn Lynn Franklin Mahoney, who passed away on September 15, 2008; and two brothers, David and Michael Franklin. George is survived by his loving wife, Margielene (Margie) Divers Franklin; daughter, Veronica Suzette Franklin Dettman and spouse, Dan Dettman, all of Land O' Lakes; granddaughter, Jennifer Lynn Rickis Wrobel of Alpharetta, Georgia; grandson, Jason Robert Rickis of Land O’ Lakes; granddaughter, Dacey Mahoney of Spring Hill; three great grandchildren; Tyler and Madison Wrobel of Alpharetta, Georgia and Jada Rickis of North Fort Myers; two step grandchildren; Herbert Dettman of Elcho, Wisconsin and Jesse Dettman of Colorado Springs, Colorado; great step grandchildren; Drayton, Allyssa, Conner, Jacob and Tyler Dettman all of Elcho, Wisconsin, Jaiden and Devin Dettman both of Colorado Springs, Colorado; three sisters, Peggy Jenkins and spouse, Bynum of Alabama, Jackie Tuttle and Nadine Franklin both of Bassett, Virginia. George had Parkinson’s Disease since April of 2002 and fought a long hard battle. He will be remembered for his great sense of humor, love and his want to help others. A funeral service will take place at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 1st at Loyless Funeral Home. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Military honors will take place on Monday, November 3rd at 12:30 p.m. at Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, Florida. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of George Franklin, to the Lions Eye Institute for Transplant and Research in Ybor City, Florida.
