George Edward Gomolski
February 10th, 1939 - September 22nd, 2024
George Edward Gomolski Born: February 10, 1939, in Chicago, IL Passed: September 22, 2024, at home in Hilton Head Island, SC
George E. Gomolski, 85, passed away peacefully at his home on Hilton Head Island, SC, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Chicago, IL, George led a life filled with love, family, and faith.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Annette Gomolski; his children, Robert Gomolski (Tena), Mark Gomolski, and Amy Echt (Aaron); his daughters-in-law, Nancy Gomolski and Tena Gomolski; and his beloved grandchildren, Dana Berden, Kyle Gomolski, and Emily Gomolski. George was preceded in death by his eldest son, Michael Gomolski, who was waiting to welcome his father into heaven with a big hug.
George’s life was filled with accomplishments, passions and miracles. After earning his master’s in mathematics from the University of Iowa, he began his career at Chrysler Corporation, where he worked for over thirty years. He suffered a massive heart attack called a "widower maker" when he was only 41 and was expected to live 6 more years. But his strong will, faith, and adherence to diet and exercise kept him alive an additional 40 wonderful years. Upon retiring from Chrysler, George’s entrepreneurial spirit led him to start TeleTracker, a software company dedicated to improving the experience of car buyers and service customers at auto dealerships. His later retirement years were no less active—George worked alongside his son Bob as the foreman in constructing multi-use buildings in South Carolina.
George found fulfillment in his faith, from teaching catechism in the family room, by encouraging his daughter to be one of the first altar girls, and especially by serving as an usher at Holy Family Catholic Church for over eight years and participating in the Men's Bible Study group. His presence at Saturday evening Mass was a welcome and familiar sight.
An avid small boat captain, George navigated Lake Michigan and Lake St. Clair with skill and care (he famously bent only one propeller in all his years). He was a nimble Rummikub player, loved maintaining his yard with meticulous care—even in rain or heat—and found great joy in time spent with his grandchildren.
His family fondly remembers his unique sense of humor, his quick wit, and his sometimes-aggressive driving, for which they offer their apologies. He was known for sayings like “See that over there” (accompanied by a tap-tap-tap on the car window to share an interesting fact) and the exclamation “It’s crazy!”
George will be dearly missed by all who knew him, but his legacy of love, dedication to family, and faith will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
A celebration of George’s life will take place at a later date where stories of his life and his beloved leaf blower may be shared.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Humane Society of the US.
