George Peter Hamel
October 19th, 1934 - November 18th, 2010
George Peter Hamel, age 76 of Gloversville passed away on Thursday November 18, 2010 at Albany Medical Center. George was born in Gloversville, NY on October 19, 1934 the son of the late Fred and Flora Hamel. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. George was known to be a wonderful man who was very strong willed. He had a great sense of humor. George enjoyed being a grandfather, cooking and eating, playing cards with his grandchildren and watching the Jerry Springer show. He will be missed by all who knew him. George is survived by his wife, Sandra Jackson Hamel, mother-in-law Marjorie Jackson, four daughters, Nannette Thurston Randy of Shelbyville, IN, Stacy Hindes Wade of Gloversville, Gail LaRock Chad of Gloversville and Toni Johnson Eric of Hope, NY. Additional Survivors include: four grandchildren, Brittney Steenburg, Anthony LaRock Jr., Wade Hindes Jr., Darrin LaRock as well as a great grandson, Jayden James Murphy. In addition to his parents, George was preceded in death by a son, Rickey P. Hamel as well as his four siblings: Bob Hamel, Bill Hamel, Doris Rieth and Ardus Hamel. A graveside service will be conducted at 10:00 a.m. on Monday November 22, 2010 at the Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery with Military Honors. Memorial Contributions can be made in memory of George to the American Lung Association of NYS; 155 Washington Avenue; Suite 210; Albany, NY 12210 or to the American Diabetes Association, Albany Area; 2 Pine West Plaza; Suite 204; Albany, NY 12205.
