George A Jones passed away peacefully on May 22, 2015 from complications of a stroke. He was born on February 21, 1931 in Decatur, Texas to Walter and Ethel Jones. He grew up in Oklahoma, winning state-wide competitions in piano performance. He married his high school sweetheart, Geraldine Wilson, on June 3, 1950. While working full-time for the Rock Island Railroad, he also graduated from Texas Wesleyan College and Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary. He later earned a doctorate from Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary.His first church was Cordova Baptist in Cordova, Tennessee. He later moved his family to Oregon, pastoring First Baptist Church in Dallas, Oregon and Trinity Baptist Church in Springfield, Oregon. After retirement, he was associate pastor at Riveria Baptist in Eugene and interim pastor at Calvary Baptist, Cottage Grove.He is survived by his wife, Geraldine, three daughters, Georgia (Rickey) Scott, Joanna Bazemore, Jeanne (Darrell) Basom, two sons, Greg (Gayle) Jones and M. Grant Jones, a brother, Maurice (Debra) Jones of Satellite Beach, FL, 11 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 1 great great granddaughter.Viewing at Musgrove Mortuary, 1152 Olive St, Eugene, Wednesday, May 27th from 2pm – 5pm.Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, May 28, 2pm at Trinity Baptist Church in Springfield, Oregon.
