George Harold Keelen
July 15th, 1929 - November 4th, 2016
George Harold Keelen, Jr. ,87, of Las Vegas, passed away suddenly on November 4, 2016. George was born July 15, 1929 in Texarkana, TX to the late George Harold ,Sr. and Lilly Bird Ellis. George graduated from St. Edward's University High School in Austin, TX. He married Gwendolyn Minchen in 1948. In 1950, George went to work for Youngblood's Fried Chicken in San Antonio, TX and stayed there as a manager until 1954. In 1955, he moved to Denver, CO to open a new fried chicken restaurant. He opened his own restaurant "The Old South" in 1958 and closed the restaurant in 1969. In 1970, he decided to go into the barricade rental business and it expanded into another business, party equipment rentals. "Chair Rental" continues today and is very successful. It is managed by his daughter, Karen Keelen Cain and his son, George Keelen, III. George enjoyed photography, computers, music, movies, football, and cooking. He was a connoisseur of shopping for a "Good Deal" and he was always willing to help a friend in need. George loved his life, his family, his friends, and Las Vegas. George is survived by his wife Gwen Keelen of Las Vegas; daughter March (Terry) Dolphin of Brooklyn, NY, daughter Karen (George) Cain of Littleton, CO, daughter Kim (Tom) Hauptman of Billing, MT, daughter Diane (David) Folks of Edmond, OK and son George (Theressa) Keelen, III of Littleton, CO; grandchildren Keelen (Jonhattan) Hauptman Ruiz, Jake Keelen, Gretchen Hauptman, Garrett Folks, Hunter Hauptman, Joey Keelen, Reagan Folks, Philip Cain, and Jarod Keelen. Upon George's request he will be cremated by Kraft-Sussman Funeral & Cremation Services. Arrangements for a Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date.
