George Kopan
April 19th, 1924 - March 30th, 2012
George was born on his family farm in Insinger, Saskatchewan to Matt Sarah Kopan. He left the farm to join the Canadian Navy, where he served in WW2 aboard the HMS Saint John on the infamous Murmansk Run.Hub loved to dance and even came home from jitterbug dance competitions with trophies. He met the love of his life, Mary Anne at a dance and followed her to Edmonds. There, he raised his family, became an American citizen, and worked for the City of Edmonds until retirement. He loved dogs, fishing, gardening, and spending time at his place on the Pilchuk river. Hub was the hardest worker and the most resourceful person ever- building something from nothing was a fun challenge for him. He could fix anything. Despite his dementia in his final years, he still loved and remembered his friends and family.George is survived by his wife of 55 years Mary Anne (McGale) Kopan; daughters, Deanna McAllister (Tom) Tammy Miller (Keith); granddaughters Alicia Miller and Lexie Miller. He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Nick, John, Ed, and Leonard, and sister Margaret. The family would like to thank Sandi Chapman caregiver and friend, Chaplain Lynnea Jardine, Anna Matysik, and all of the many supportive friends and family during this difficult time. Announcement: The family suggests remembrances be made to: Providence Hospice of Everett 2731 Wetmore Ave Ste 500 Everett, WA 98201 (425) 261-4822, or favorite charity.
