George Dennis Lynn

Lynn, George Dennis, Sr., 83, of St. Petersburg, died Thursday November 16, 2000. Born in Shadyside, New Jersey, he came here in 1966 from Mountain Home Air Force Base, Idaho. He was a retired Lieutenant Colonel, serving 26 years in the U.S. Air Force. He was a C46 Pilot in the Air Force and flew the Hump in the India-Burma-Chinese Theater; he was the recipient of the Distinguished Flying Cross Medal, the Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, and the National Defense Service Medal. He was assigned to the U.S. Embassy in Munich, Germany in 1952; and from 1955-1958, he was a Professor of Air Science at the University of North Carolina; from 1959-1966, he was a KC97 refueling tanker pilot at Mountain Home Air Force Base, Idaho. He was a member of the Retired Officers? Association and a graduate of Bucknell University in Pennsylvania. He was Russian Orthodox. Survivors include two sons, G. Dennis ?Dennis? Lynn, Jr. of St. Petersburg and Dale R. Lynn of Ponte Vedra Beach, Florida; a daughter, Diane Lynn Phillips of Auburn, California; two sisters, Mary Kozden of Manville, New Jersey and Sonja Cantarelli of Summerville, New Jersey; two brothers, Keith Lynn of Manville, New Jersey and Joseph Lynn of Toms River, New Jersey, five grandchildren, Captain Darren D. Lynn of Caracas, Venezuela, Daniel G. Lynn of Dallas, Texas, Lynn Phillips of Huntington Beach, California, William Phillips of Raleigh, North Carolina and Jennifer Lynn Phillips of Auburn, California, and 4 great grandchildren.
