George Abraham Nassif, 86, of Largo, Florida passed away peacefully surrounded by his family early Christmas morning December 25, 2017. George is survived by his daughters Mary Lacaillade, Rose Nassif Travers, Joan Elliott, Pauline Nassif and his son John Nassif, his 10 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, his sister Joanne Hamilton, brother-in-law Bollen Hamilton, nieces Sheila Harper, Theresa Bouthillette, Linda Foman, and nephews Richard Gray and Eddie Nassif, Jr. He was preceded in death by his parents Abraham Nassif and Rose Nassif Love, his sister Lucille Cornelissen, his brother Edward Nassif, and his niece Jennifer Gray. George was a loving father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend. George was born in Boston and grew up in Mission Hill Roxbury, Massachusetts and he raised his own family in Raynham, Massachusetts with his former wife Joan Nassif. George loved the ocean and being at the beach and spent years living on Cape Cod. George was a combat veteran who served in the United States Air Force as a Supply Sergeant in the strategic bomber command division during the Korean War in Korea. He was stationed in Korea in late 1952 and returned to the United States after the peace agreement in 1953. He worked as a computer operations analyst and also spent a year in Saudi Arabia working as a technical writer for the Royal Saudi Navy. George also served his country as a Veteran's Representative for the State of New Hampshire Department of Employment Security where he put hundreds of veterans back to work. He retired from the State of New Hampshire in 2002 and moved to Florida to help his elderly mother Rose. He loved his country passionately and his favorite song was "God Bless America". George was a great storyteller and enjoyed sharing the stories of his life with his family and friends . George always quietly supported those in need without the want for any fanfare, whether it be financial or emotional support, he always helped a friend in need. He was the biggest cheerleader for his children and loved ones and was known for his "words of wisdom" that his children will continue to live their lives by: "Never lose your sense of humor", "You need to take care of yourself before you can take care of anyone else", "Listen to your gut, it never lies", and "It is only through conflict and confrontation do we find out what we are truly made of". A special thank you to the Bay Pines VA Hospital in St. Petersburg, Florida for their loving care and support. The doctors and nurses have cared for George over many years as he battled cancer and were inspired by his strength and sheer determination. Along with a heartfelt thank you to Mary Baxter his loving caretaker and to Bert Lombard for his loyal, decades-long friendship. Also, thank you to A Life Tribute Funeral Home for helping his family during a difficult time to make all of the arrangements for George's home going service. Funeral services for George will be held at the Bay Pines National Cemetery in St. Petersburg, Florida where George will be laid to rest with military honors including a flag folding ceremony on Thursday, January 4th at 2:15PM. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the DAV (Disabled American Veterans) in the name of George A.
