George Phillips
August 9th, 1945 - July 29th, 2024
George Phillips was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend. He left this world peacefully at home surrounded by family on July 29, 2024.
He was born to Thomas N. Phillips and Thelma Johnson on August 9th, 1945. George proudly served in the United States Navy from 1963-1970. He did two cruises to Vietnam on the USS Ranger and USS Oriskany aircraft carriers. After his service, he worked at Francis Marion University for approximately 15 years. After FMU, he worked for himself as a commercial truck driver. George loved all things outdoors. He was an avid hunter who spent countless hours in a deer stand and even went to Wyoming to hunt Antelope. Through the years he loved drag racing, riding his Harley Davidson motorcycles, offshore fishing, and driving the motorhome all over this country to camp with his wife and friends.
He is preceded in death by his father Thomas Phillips, his mother Thelma Johnson Frierson, and his step-father JP Frierson as well as his sisters Dorothy Turner, Pat Collins, and Nancy Taylor. He is survived by his wife Kathryn Phillips, brother Ernest Phillips (Cheryl), son Bobby Phillips (Jada), stepdaughter Kelly Newman (Drew), granddaughters Julian and Jean Claire Phillips, step-granddaughter Layla Newman, nephews John Taylor (Janet), Greg Taylor (Renee), and Preston Collins (Maureen), niece Marie Collins, and cousins Lee Clark and Barbara Ann Clark.
Graveside service is scheduled for Mount Hope Cemetery in Florence, SC on Saturday, August 24th, 2024 at 1pm
