George "Smitty" B. Smith

Smith, George B. "Smitty" 85, of Pinellas Park, passed away Saturday, November 19, 2011, at Hospice House Woodside. Beloved Husband, Brother, Father, and grandfather. He was raised in Michigan and retired in Florida. He was a WWII veteran and saw combat on the USS Missouri. He was a plumber by trade and belonged to the plumber's union. He loved playing card games such as pinochle, rummy, and poker. He was a proud member and active fundraiser for the American Legion in Ocala, Florida. Smitty was an avid hunter, fisherman, woodworker, and ballroom dancer. He was especially proud of his Irish heritage. He is survived by his loving wife Catherine "Cathy"; children Mary Ann Balon, Raymond Smith, and Debra Stevens; grandchildren Roger C. Edwards and Ian Stevens; sister Julie Salfer; stepfamilies including daughter Marianne and grandchildren Megan and Michael, daughter Diane and grandchildren Todd and Eric; he was especially fond of his Shih-Tzu Candy. Services will be Wednesday November 23rd, 2011 with visitation from 9:00am-10:00am at the funeral home with Funeral Mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pinellas Park, Florida at 11:00am. Military Honors at Bay Pines National Cemetery will be at a future date.
