George Dennis Tellez

George Dennis Tellez, 65, of Greeley, CO died Wednesday, November 18th at North Colorado Medical Center. He was born April 27, 1944 in Greeley to Anastacio and Lillian (Garcia) Tellez. In 1963 he married Rose Flores, they later divorced. Since 1987 he has been married to Linda Vigil. George grew up in Greeley and graduated from Greeley Central High School in 1962. He attended Mesa Junior College in Grand Junction, CO on a basketball scholarship where he also played baseball. In high school he played baseball, basketball and ran cross-country. He received All-State honors in baseball and basketball. George was a member of the Greeley Central High School "G” Club and a member of Championship Basketball Teams for Hispanic Tournaments in Nebraska and Kansas. He played for semi-pro baseball teams, the Greeley Grays, Rocky Grays and the Monfort Luggers. He also played on numerous softball teams in Greeley. Later in life he officiated basketball for many of the Weld County Leagues. Mr. Tellez worked for Monfort Feedlot for 12 years before moving on to Kodak. He worked at Kodak for 23 years and retired in 2003. Since then he has been employed part time at the Greeley Medical Clinic. He was a long standing member of Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church where he served as an altar boy in his youth and in the choir as he grew older. Mr. Tellez is remembered by his family as a wonderful father, grandfather, husband, brother and son, who loved his family and friends. He was also well known for his love of music. He had a love of sports and was a big Denver Broncos, CU Buffs and Colorado Rockies fan. He is survived by his wife Linda Tellez; mother, Lillian Tellez; children, Larry (Felicia) Tellez; Debra Crist, Terasina (Doug) White, Kristine (Dan) Roth, April Franklin, Wesley Roth, Jordan Tellez, Tanner Tellez; grandchildren, Ceara Tellez, Cameron Tellez, Celeste Tellez, Hannah Park, Morgan White, Mason White, Korri Roth, Casey Roth, Xavier Bonham, Kya Franklin; siblings, Sandy Suniga, Susie Grimm, Linda Tellez and Harry Tellez, all of Greeley, and Edward Tellez of Las Vegas, NV. George was preceded in death by his father, Anastacio; brothers, Larry, Gary Lewis, Jerry and Daniel Tellez. Visitation will be 6:00 �" 7:00 p.m. Monday, November 23, 2009 followed by Recitation of the Rosary at 7:00 p.m. at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, November 24th at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church followed by interment at Linn Grove Cemetery.
