George Clark Vosburgh

Gloversville, NY-George Clark Vosburgh, age 92, of Gloversville, NY, passed away Thursday morning, September 15, 2016 at his home, after a lengthy heart illness. Calling hours will be held on Monday, September 19, 2016 at Walrath & Stewart, 51 Freemont St, Gloversville (518-620-6561) from 6-8 p.m. Another calling hour will be held on Tuesday morning, Sept. 20th at the Broadalbin Baptist Church, 40 W. Main St., Broadalbin from 10 am until 11 am. The funeral will commence at 11 am on Tuesday morning Sept. 20th, from Broadalbin Baptist Church, with Dr. Robert Phillips, pastor officiating. A reception will take place following the church service in the church gathering hall followed by burial at Ames Cemetery, Canajoharie. Military honors will be accorded by the US Army. George was born on December 28, 1923, in Amsterdam, to Clark E. and Caroline M. (Andrews) Vosburgh of Ames, NY. He graduated from school and helped his father run the grist mill in Ames. In 1944, he joined the Army and during World War II, served as a violinist in the Army Orchestra along with being a medic. On October 23, 1948, he married Shirley Jane Palmer in Galway, NY where they lived prior to moving to Gloversville. George was employed as a knitter in several area knitting mills and also maintained the family farm in Gloversville. His passion was music and played his violin in the Worchester Philharmonic Orchestra, Amsterdam Little Symphony, Mohawk Valley Symphony, Little Falls Symphony, Ballston Spa Symphony, Schenectady Senior Citizens Orchestra and Johnstown Senior Group. George, along with his wife, taught music lessons for 47 years, served in music ministry and AWANA Youth Group for many years at Broadalbin Baptist Church. He was a 4-H Club leader and cared for 20 foster children. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, Shirley; children, Timothy Paul (Sheree) Vosburgh of Benson, NY, Jane Marie Lampkin of Gloversville, Daniel Clark Vosburgh of Gloversville, eight grandchildren and several great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Carol Ann (Vosburgh) Dedrick.
