Georgette Frances Knowles (Ossi) Georgette Knowles passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home in Bradenton, FL on Tuesday October 22, 2013. Georgette was born on September 3rd, 1932 in Jacksonville, FL. She graduated from Landon High School, Jacksonville, FL in 1950 and St. Vincent’s Medical Center, School of Nursing, Jacksonville, FL in 1953 where she earned her degree as a Registered Nurse. Following her graduation from nursing school she attended Charity Hospital in New Orleans, LA where she completed Anesthesiology training under Dr. John Adriani, MD. She graduated with a degree as a Registered Nurse Anesthetist. She worked in Anesthesia at St Vincent’s Medical Center in Jacksonville, FL where she met her future husband, John L. Knowles, MD. They were married on December 30, 1956 at Assumption Catholic Church in Jacksonville, FL. They were transferred to the U.S. Naval Hospital, Pensacola, FL in 1960 and settled in Bradenton, FL in 1962. Georgette was a member of Saints Peter and Paul The Apostles Catholic Church in Bradenton, FL. She was actively involved in the community as a member and Treasurer of Entre Nous, President of Service Club of Manatee County and President of the Women's Auxiliary to the Manatee County Medical Society. She was a member of Manatee River Garden Club and the Bradenton Country Club where she served as Treasurer. She was a Rosarian, an avid golfer, and she loved to travel with her husband, visiting over 57 countries. Georgette was predeceased by her father Tobias Ossi, and mother Janie Ossi, and her three brothers, Sidney Ossi, Ben Ossi and Fred Ossi, all of Jacksonville, FL. Georgette is survived by her husband of 57 years, John L. Knowles, MD; her four children, John Knowles Jr. (Cindy) of Greensboro, NC, Anne Knowles Bruno (Anthony) of Snellville, GA, Michael Knowles (Karen) of Delray Beach, FL and Chris Knowles (Lauren) of Bradenton, FL, and seven grandchildren, Allie Knowles, Libby Knowles, AJ Bruno, Alexander Bruno, John Bruno, Janie Kate Knowles and Sidney Anne Knowles. Georgette was a devoted, loving wife, mother, and friend and she will be dearly missed. The Knowles Family gratefully acknowledges the skilled and dedicated care provided by Georgette’s primary caregivers, Kim Christeson, Susan Tyree, Heather Ditta, and Crystal Thornton as well as her other dedicated caregivers during the last four years. A visitation will be held on Friday October 25th from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Griffith-Cline Funeral Home, 720 Manatee Avenue West, Bradenton, FL. A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday October 26th at 12:00pm at Saints Peter and Paul The Apostles Catholic Church 2850 75th Street W. Bradenton, FL. Interment will be private for family members. Donations may be made in Georgette’s honor to Saints Peter and Paul The Apostles Catholic Church.
