Georgine Zabka

Georgine Zabka went home to be with Jesus on December 28, 2010 from Grace Pointe Continuing Care Center in Greeley, Colorado. She was born in Leigh, Nebraska on August 1, 1927 to Edward and Helen (Motycka) Zabka. Her family moved to Denver around 1945. Georgine was a graduate of Denver West High School in 1945 then attended Steven Henagers Business College in Salt Lake City, Utah. She also completed more than a dozen Savings and Loan Institute and college courses. She served five and a half years with Empire Savings, a year with First National Bank, and three years in management, including a year in the Campus Yarn Shop. She also worked six years with Prudential Federal Savings and Loan in Salt Lake City prior to being named manager of First Federal Savings in Greeley. Georgine was a very active person and enjoyed running, swimming, golfing, sewing, knitting, gourmet cooking, and traveling with her many friends. Highlights of her life were trips to Israel and being baptized in the Jordan River. She knew and loved Jesus and attended Resurrection Fellowship for over 25 years. She was a caregiver for many families. She also loved spending time with her family. Georgine will be greatly missed by all who knew her. She is survived by her three children, Mary (Rick) Schafer of LaSalle, CO, Cheryl (Kevin) Cooper of San Diego, CA, and Duane (Leonore) Walter of Greeley; grandchildren, Brenda (Randy )Ray, Chad (Dawn)Schafer, Bradd (Jada) Schafer, Daemian Barr, Kimberly and Kala Cooper, Megan (Aaron) Sims, Nathan, David and Stephen Walter, and 13 great-grandchildren. Also surviving are brothers, Dewey (Dorothy) Zabka of Greeley, Gerald Zabka of Denver, CO; and a sister, Diane Yurko-Sanders of Denver. She was preceded in death by her parents. Friends may visit from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Sunday January 2, 2011at Adamson Chapel. Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 3, 2011at Resurrection Fellowship Church, 6502 E. Crossroads Blvd. Loveland; with the interment to follow at 3:00 p.m. at Sunset Memorial Gardens in Greeley. Memorial contributions may be made to "Weld Schools Credit Union” in care of Adamson Chapel, 2000 47th Avenue, Greeley, CO 80634. The funds will be used for a Living Tree Memorial in her name.
