Gerald Francis Houlihan
March 11th, 1937 - March 24th, 2019
Gerald Francis Houlihan was born March 11, 1937 in Dingle, Co Kerry, Ireland and died March 24, 2019 in Tacoma Washington. After receiving his B.S. in Chemistry from University College Dublin in 1960, Gerald emigrated to the United States. He worked in a pharmaceutical lab until his draft notice arrived and he served in the US Army from 1961 to 1963. Upon discharge from the Army, Gerald returned to New Jersey and continued working as a research chemist which involved world travels. He was preceded in death by his parents James Christopher Houlihan and Lucy (O’Connor) Houlihan, his brothers Fr. Leo Houlihan, OCSO, James Desmond Houlihan (Patricia) and Michael Houlihan (Brighid). He is survived by his wife Margaret Mary Houlihan, son Sean P. Houlihan (Lori), and daughter Noreen T. Houlihan; grandchildren Andrew, Dalton, Marissa and Kimberly; his brothers John Valentine Houlihan (Julia) of New Jersey and Rev. Fr. Harry Houlihan, OFM of Ireland and numerous nieces and nephews in the United States, Ireland and Scotland. Gerald was a private man who, in place of services, would have enjoyed knowing that the family and friends he loved celebrated his life with family meals and memories shared. In lieu of flowers, please contribute to your local public television station in his memory. He enjoyed the educational content of these stations and shared tidbits of information from them with his unique dry sense of humor. Arrangements by Edwards Memorial, Funerals Homes, Chapels and Crematories. 253-566-1008
