Gerald (Jerry) Joseph Snyder, 89, passed away on September 28, 2024, at Zon Beachside Assisted Living in Indian Harbor Beach, Florida. Born on July 7, 1935, in Blasdell, New York, Jerry led a life marked by devotion to family, a distinguished career in manufacturing, and a passion for antique automobiles and history.

Jerry's early education took place at Stella Niagara Academy followed by Bishop Timon High School in Buffalo, New York. He pursued engineering at Notre Dame University in Indiana where he became a life-long fan of the Fighting Irish. In 1958, Jerry served briefly in the US Army doing basic training at Fort Dix, New Jersey, before receiving an honorable discharge to the US Army Reserve.

Professionally, Jerry was the President of Snyder Tank Corporation, a steel and aluminum fuel tank development and manufacturing company founded by his father in 1939 in Buffalo, New York. The company specialized in diesel fuel tanks with safety features for semi-trailer trucks for customers such as Mack Truck and International Harvester-Navistar, but also built bleachers for schools and colleges. Snyder Tank had plants in Buffalo NY, Galeton PA, Springfield OH, Sparks NV and Chester SC with over 450 employees. Under his leadership from 1960-1997, the company expanded its reach and offerings significantly, contributing to the industry and providing for numerous families. The company was acquired by Kuhlman (later BorgWarner) in 1997.

An avid collector and restorer of antique automobiles, mostly Fords (Model T, Model A, 1956 Thunderbird) and Lincolns (1933,1942,1962,1972,1976), Jerry was an active member in automotive circles in both Buffalo and Brevard County. His love for cars was matched by his enthusiasm for sports, particularly golf, and he remained a lifelong fan of the Buffalo Bills and Notre Dame football.  In his retirement, Jerry's interest in family history led him to delve into genealogical research, traveling extensively to England and Germany to connect with distant relatives and learn more about his family's ancestry. His love for history also extended to a fascination with mechanical devices and historical vehicles (land, sea or air) from various eras.

He is survived by his daughter, Suzanne Snyder Riley(Dan); son, G. Jeffrey Snyder (Sossina Haile); grandchildren, Kendall Riley, Alemayouh Snyder, Berhanu Snyder, and Caitlin Riley; and his ex-wife and longtime friend, Ronette A. Snyder. Jerry was preceded in death by his parents, Mahlon Snyder and Catherine Kegelmyer Snyder; his siblings, Eileen Murray, T. James Snyder, and Joan Dutt. Memorial services will be held on December 13, 2024, at Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church in Indian Harbor Beach, Florida. Visitation will begin at 10:30 AM followed by a mass at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Haile-Manas Academy for the Snyder-named Science Building at https://ethiopiaed.org/donatetoeei or Rotary Club at https://my.rotary.org/en/donate.

Jerry's legacy of generosity, leadership, and community involvement will be remembered by all who knew him. His laughter, support, and unwavering dedication to his family and friends have left an indelible mark on the hearts of many.
