Gerald G. Robinson
May 8th, 1933 - December 17th, 2008
ROBINSON, Gerald G., 75 of Tampa, went to be with the Lord on December 17, 2008. Gerry was born and raised in northern Minnesota. He was the youngest of four children, and the only boy. After battling polio as a child, and with the support of his strong Christian family, he was determined to live his life fully, and his faith in Christ gave him the strength to do so. He was Professor Emeritus in the Dept. of Biology at the University of South Florida where he was a charter faculty member. For 40 years he was recognized as an outstanding professor who rode his bike to work every day. Throughout his life he was involved with numerous ministries such as being a devoted Sunday School and Bible study teacher. He was also a passionate Wycliffe Bible Translators supporter in a variety of roles including photographer, botanist, financial advisor and contributor. He was a wonderful husband, father, brother, uncle, friend, and very proud “Abuelo” to his three grandchildren. He embraced diversity in people and was a nature lover, sports (especially soccer) enthusiast, intellectual and storyteller. He had a beautiful voice and loved to sing hymns in several languages. He is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Betty; son, Stephen and his wife Becky and their children Jessica, Zachary and Stephanie; son, Kevin; sister, Eleanor Ellingsen of Duluth, MN; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and in-laws; and honorary daughters Marggie Rassler and Carol Ann Ransone. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him, but it gives his family and friends comfort to know that he now sees his Savior face to face and is reunited with many of his loved ones. A memorial service will be held at St. James United Methodist Church on Tuesday, December 23 at 10:00 a.m. Visitation will be on Sunday, December 21 from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please donate in Gerry’s memory to Wycliffe Bible Translators, American Bible Society or World Vision. hn glover death datepsychology and lung cancer
