Geraldine Fickenscher
February 9th, 1935 - February 21st, 2014
Geraldine A. Fickenscher passed away on February 21st, 2014 at age 79. Geraldine (Geri) was born to Karsen and Rena Eilers on February 9th, 1935 in Gothenberg, Nebraska. Her elementary years were spent in a one room country school house, which she walked across the canyon to attend. She graduated from Gothenburg High School in May of 1953. On April 25th, 1954, she married Donald Fickenscher of Brady Nebraska at Zion Lutheran Church in Gothenburg. They lived in Fort Knox, Kentucky at the beginning of their marriage, while Don served in the US Army. After that, they resided on the Fickenscher Family farm 9 miles north of Brady, NE. To this marriage, 3 children were born, Bruce, Brenda and Bonnie. Geri was a homemaker and mother first and foremost. She enjoyed cooking, baking, sewing and quilting. Her cinnamon rolls are something none of us will ever forget! As her children were growing up, she was a scout leader and 4-H leader. She also owned and operated Geri’s Ceramics in Brady, NE. In January, 1972, the family moved to Greeley, CO. Geri worked at assorted jobs in Greeley including being a licensed daycare provider. Her love of babies was well noted there and again as her grandchildren and great grandchildren joined the family. In 1984, Don and Geri moved to the metro Denver area, settling in Thornton, CO. There Geri worked for Kaiser Permanente as a pharmacy clerk for several years. They were active members of Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Thornton, CO. In later years, they lived in Greeley, Loveland and Johnstown, CO. February 1st, 2014, they moved to Arvada Estates in Arvada, CO. Geri is survived by her husband of almost 60 years, Donald; her son, Bruce (Brenda) of Chivington, CO, her daughters, Brenda (Steve) Adler of Johnstown, CO and Bonnie (Mac) McMillan of Arvada, CO. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren; Jim Jackson, Jamie Conley, Lindsay McMillan, Tyrell Fickenscher, Megan Bochman, Kenny McMillan, Todd McMillan and Tracie McMillan and 12 Great Grandchildren. She is proceeded in death by her parents, Karsen and Rena Eilers, and her brother, Richard Eilers. Memorial services will be at 10 AM on Saturday, March 1st, 2014 at Lord of Life Lutheran Church, 12021 Northaven Circle, Thornton, CO 80241. Geri will be laid to rest this summer at Zion Lutheran Church in Gothenburg Nebraska. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Exempla Lutheran Hospice, 3210 Lutheran Pkwy, Wheat Ridge, CO 80033.
