GERARD PAUL MCGHEE Gerard “Gerry” McGhee of Denver and Las Vegas passed away January 1, 2015. He was born February 6, 1936, in Lynn, Massachusetts to Charles and Mary McGhee (Kelly). Gerry served honorably in the US Navy from 1954-1962. In 1962, Gerry married Valerie Veronica Smith and the couple made Las Vegas their home in 1963. Gerry worked at the Nevada Test Site and Reynolds Electrical Engineering Company Inc. for over 25 years. He held executive positions in other companies as well, most recently Rinker Materials. Gerry and Valerie relocated to Denver last year. They celebrated 52 years of marriage on December 29th. With a passion for sports, Gerry coached numerous youth baseball and basketball teams and was involved for many years with The Potoscky League, a youth sports organization for which he passionately volunteered. Through the Potoscky League he, along with many others, helped build what eventually became the Lied Memorial Clubhouse of the Boys and Girls Clubs of Southern Nevada. Gerry was a kind, strong, gentle man, and the most incredible father and wonderful husband. His three sisters, Mary, Helen, and Joanie, and his 4 brothers Charles, Frances, Joseph, and Robert preceded him in death. Gerry is survived by his wife, Valerie; son Michael; daughter Elizabeth; grandsons, Jacob and Christopher; brother, William (Albina); sister-in-law Christina (Pat) and numerous nieces and nephews. Gerry will always be remembered for his love of history, wonderful sense of humor, always going the extra mile for everyone and as a true friend to all. A celebration of Gerry’s life will be at 2 pm, Saturday Jan. 17th, at The National Atomic Testing Museum, 755 E. Flamingo Road, Las Vegas, Nevada. The family asks that all gifts and memorials be made in the form of donations to The National Atomic Testing Museum or Boys and Girls Club of Southern Nevada.
